Personal Statement
I am an internationally recognised expert in Evidence Based Policing (EBP). My research specialisms include police decision making and risk assessment in child sexual abuse, missing person investigations, equivocal death and contested document analysis, and training design and evaluation. My research takes a critical and quality assessment approach towards forensic interventions, working alongside Police Forces and other agencies to identify ‘what works’ in practise. This body of work is essential for improving the ability of police forces and other agencies to improve management of investigations and offender populations, helping to manage risks to public safety and safeguarding goals. I possess expertise in training design and delivery and have taken a lead national role in handing over the scientific agenda of EBP to Police Forces and Police Crime Commissioners. In addition, I am skilled in conducting evidence assessments, process, outcome, and economic evaluations, all of which are vital for assessing the effectiveness of forensic interventions and ensuring that agencies make effective use of stretched resources. These skills have also been essential for successfully evidencing research impact.

I am currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology and have contributed to Forensic Psychology MSc and BSc courses in the North of England for fifteen years.
