Personal Statement
I am a Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) Lecturer in the School of Biosciences, specialising in the design, delivery, and evaluation of digital learning and assessment systems in higher education. My teaching focuses on statistics, coding, data science, and computational thinking, with a strong emphasis on inclusive pedagogy, authentic assessment, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in education.

I have extensive experience designing and building bespoke educational web applications to support teaching, learning, and assessment at scale. My work includes systems to replace legacy OMR exam readers, automated workflows for managing coursework extensions for students with support plans, and AI-enabled platforms that generate formative quizzes and feedback from existing Canvas and Panopto content. These tools integrate directly with institutional VLE infrastructure and are designed to enhance accessibility, efficiency, learning analytics, and academic integrity.

My technical expertise includes Python, Django, Docker, and R, alongside experience with APIs, LTI integrations, learning analytics, data visualisation, and scalable cloud-based learning technologies. My interests lie at the intersection of pedagogy, software engineering, and applied AI in education, including AI-assisted feedback, adaptive assessment, and conversational learning systems that support student learning while mitigating inappropriate AI use.

I am also the founder of HiPy, a city-wide community coding initiative that has introduced thousands of staff and students at the University of Liverpool to Python programming, supporting learners from complete beginners to advanced users and promoting open, inclusive approaches to computational skills development across disciplines.
