ABOUT
Personal Statement
I am a Senior Lecturer in Architectural Design and Humanities at the Liverpool School of Architecture.
I have served as the co-lead of the department's Architectural and Urban History research group as well the Director of Studies in the BA programme. I am now the Chair of the Academic Integrity Committee in the School of the Arts.
My research centres on the role of institutions in the history of architecture, be they educational institutions such as schools of architecture, professional bodies such as the Royal Institute of British Architecture, or government agencies such as building research stations. I am working on a history of the architectural profession in the British Empire with a current focus on developments in pre-Independence India.
I am an architect and teach design studio in the second year of the BA programme. I also contribute to a range of lecture modules, some of which I have convened in the past.
Research Overview
My research centres on the role of institutions in the history of architecture, specifically British architecture in the late nineteenth and throughout the twentieth century. This includes educational institutions such as schools of architecture, professional bodies such as the Royal Institute of British Architecture, and government agencies such as Building Research Station.
I am the author of a monograph on the Architectural Association School of Architecture and have published on the policy-making role of architectural students in the interwar period as well as the influence of the Building Research Station on architectural education in the postwar period.
I am working on a history of architectural education in the British Empire, currently focusing on the transimperial movement towards professional registration in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as well as the rise of school-based architectural training in pre-Independence India from 1900 onward.
