ABOUT
Personal Statement
With a PhD and postdoctoral background in bioengineering alongside a specialist focus on digital communications and video production (filming, interviewing and editing) I've honed a unique set of skills that enable me to bridge the gap between research and audience. I am to create content that not only engages but also supports strategic outcomes such as public engagement recognition, partnership development, and global visibility.
My role is to create and deliver digital content across video, web, and social media that supports public engagement, research visibility, and global reputation, underpinned by a strong understanding of the academic environment. This allows me to collaborate effectively with researchers, professional services, students and external stakeholders to ensure communications activity is aligned with Faculty and University strategy.
My core expertise in strategic communications advisory, content development, web and UX enhancement, and digital storytelling, and I lead on video production and multimedia content to support Faculty social media channels, and contribute to high-profile flagship initiatives including Pint of Science, Meet the Scientist, and the Scouse Science Podcast as well as digital storytelling around our researcher-led public engagement activities that have led to our national recognition with an NCCPE Watermark award.
I also apply analytics, UX, accessibility, and EDI principles to inform decision-making and improve digital platforms to ensure the highest quality user experience across our Faculty websites.
Alongside delivery, I actively engage in continuous professional development in areas such as AI-enabled content creation, advanced video production, UX and AI forms, and digital strategy. I participate in internal and external professional networks to ensure my practice remains aligned with sector innovation and best practice.
From my earliest days as a postdoc, through to patient interaction in the clinical trials sector, industrial and global research collaborations in the Research Partnerships and Innovations Directorate, I've been grounded in the strategic role of digital communications in translating research into meaningful engagement to enhance the University's regional, national, and global impact.
Research Overview
My career has developed at the intersection of scientific research, translational impact, and communication. I began in academic research, completing a PhD and postdoctoral work in bioengineering, where I investigated the biodynamics of flow in tissue-engineered vascular and osteogenic constructs using bioreactor systems at the University of Liverpool and the University of Bath. I later extended this work into applied biomedical research at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, exploring the reproductive toxicological effects of anti-malarial compounds using in vivo models.
This foundation in complex, multidisciplinary science led me into clinical trials, both in industry at Covance and within the Liverpool Clinical Trials Unit. Here, I worked closely with clinical fellows, sponsors, and regulatory bodies including the MHRA and HTA, gaining insight into how research translates into patient-facing outcomes within highly regulated environments.
Building on this translational perspective, I moved into research development and innovation at the University of Liverpool, working within Research Partnerships and Innovation on international funding initiatives. In this role, I collaborated across research support, knowledge exchange, and industrial strategy teams, as well as with external stakeholders such as UKRI. I also undertook specialist training in research communication and public engagement, including Groundswell Community Journalism Training and Beyond Human Public Engagement coaching, which strengthened my approach to audience engagement and narrative development. It was here that I developed a strong focus on strategic communication—supporting the positioning of research for funding, partnership, and global engagement.
I now bring this combined experience into my role in Faculty Communications, where I specialise in digital content and video production. My work focuses on translating complex research into accessible, high-impact content that supports public engagement, enhances research visibility, and contributes to strategic outcomes such as institutional recognition, partnership development, and global profile.
Across each stage of my career, a consistent theme has been connecting research to wider audiences and impact. I now do this through digital storytelling—working with researchers, stakeholders, and partners to ensure that research is not only conducted, but understood, valued, and recognised.
