Personal Statement
Dr Yan Zhou joined Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, University of Liverpool as a Lecturer since 2017 after my PhD graduation in 2015 and post doctoral research fellow in 2016 in City, University of London. My research interests lie in numerical simulations of wave-structure interaction, complex immersible multiphase flows and sediment transport through developing particle-based Computational Fluid dynamics (CFD) including MLPG_R and SPH. The models have been applied to coastal and offshore engineering covering wide topics such as wave breaking on porous breakwaters, sediment laden jet flow, scour at the foundation of offshore wind turbine, mud flocculation in estuaries etc.
Research Overview
• Particle-based method for modelling granular flow (sand and mud), i.e., bedform evolution, sediment settling, and its interaction with soil, i.e. seabed, and structures, i.e. wind turbine foundation and offshore pipelines.
• Flows with free surface in violent situations and their interactions with structure
• Multiphase flows simulation covering wide range of fluid density ratios and viscosities
• Flow interaction with porous structure for wave energy dissipation and coastal protection
