ABOUT

Personal Statement
Katy joined the University of Liverpool Management School in 2017. She is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing. Prior to this, she has undertaken a PhD in Marketing at the Open University Business School, and gained a BSc (Hons) in Marketing and an MA in Human Resource and Knowledge Management from Lancaster University. Katy's research interests rest in the field of Consumer Research, with expertise on family consumption. She has specialised in the subfields of parenthood, consumer vulnerability, resilience and consumer socialisation.

Her research has investigated the transition to motherhood for South Asian mothers living in the UK (examining gender identity, ethnicity, migration and heritage), how families prepare for times of uncertainty (particularly in relation to Brexit and how this shapes family consumption practices), and the experiences of grandfathers in consumer socialisation of grandchildren. More recently she has undertaken research on consumer betrayal, examining the experiences of the bereaved during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her expertise lies in the areas of family consumption, parenthood, consumer vulnerability and resilience. She would welcome the opportunity to work on multidisciplinary projects, or supervise PhD students relating to these topics. She has published her work in international peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Marketing, European Journal of Marketing, Gender, Work and Organization, and Sociology, and has presented at conferences such as European Association for Consumer Research, British Sociological Association Conference, AMA Winter Conference and the Academy of Marketing Conference.
