Personal Statement
I obtained a BSc in Biomedical Sciences (University of Sheffield), an MSc in Reproductive and Developmental Biology (Imperial College London) and a PhD on Molecular and Stem Cell Biology (University of Oxford). I then worked as a post-doctoral research associate investigating circadian clock genes and the chondrogenic potential of human embryonic stem cells (University of Manchester). After more than 7 years as a basic research scientist, I made the transition to applied clinical research. I first worked as a research assistant for an international population-based observational study on fetal and newborn growth and development (University of Oxford). I am now a coordinator for clinical research studies in ophthalmology; I am the project manager for the ISDR (Individualised Screening for Diabetic Retinopathy) study and I support the Monarch study on age-related macular degeneration at the Clinical Eye Research Centre (St. Paul’s Eye Unit, Royal Liverpool University Hospital).
