Personal Statement
As an internationally recognised expert in Researcher Development and Research Culture, my strengths lie in fostering strategic, innovative and inclusive approaches that celebrate and nurture the breadth and diversity of talent. I am responsible for strategy, policy and practice in relation to award-winning development and cultural initiatives by teams which support researchers and research-enabling colleagues across all disciplines, career stages and leadership levels. I work in collaboration with a range of senior academic and professional stakeholders across and beyond Liverpool.

My professional practice to push the frontiers of innovative researcher development and research culture initiatives, is underpinned by my experiences having lived and worked in countries across 5 continents – including corporate experience in GlaxoSmithKline – and my ongoing work fostering cultural transformations across the Liverpool research ecosystem. I have led change and overseen team growth from a small single person unit, to a team of 13 colleagues covering three key portfolios that help deliver all elements of the University’s Strategy 2031. Under my leadership, our team’s work has been recognised as sector-leading. I have delivered significant returns on investment in multi-disciplinary development activities, and have transformed the researcher and research-enabling professional’s experience at Liverpool.

On a global platform I have been a Council member of the European Educational Research Association (EERA). I founded and continue to engage with EERA’s mentoring programmes dedicated to cultivating early career talent in research-oriented institutions across Europe. I have chaired national working groups related to researcher development, research culture and evaluation and am currently the Chair for Vitae’s UK Policy Advisory Group. I am also an Advisory Board member for the £4.6 million RSVP (Research SuperVision Project) and the Faraday Institution Training and Diversity Panel - the UK’s independent institute for electrochemical energy storage research, skills development, market analysis, and early-stage commercialisation. I am a Project Partner and Advisory Board member for the NERCOUTE Future Female Leaders of Geoscience Project, and I am also an Editorial Board member and a reviewer for several international education journals and the European Commission’s HR Excellence in Research Award.
