ABOUT
Personal Statement
Dr Michelle Tornquist is a Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of Liverpool. She was awarded her PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Sussex, and her Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychology from California State University Long Beach. Her research interests concern self-regulation – how people direct their thoughts, feelings, and actions to achieve their goals. In particular, her research uses multi-method approaches to examine how people manage their emotions and whether this translates into improved goal attainment and physical and mental wellbeing.
Research Overview
One line of research examines what people believe about emotions and how people regulate their emotions to attain their goals, and whether this is influenced by individual and contextual factors. A second line of research investigates the impact of brief emotion regulation interventions on health-related outcomes over time. A third line of research is concerned with protective factors (e.g., emotion regulation strategies, nature exposure) influencing well-being in various populations.
