ABOUT
Personal Statement
Nuria graduated from the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain and, after completing two equine internships, began her career in equine practice managing the world's largest Andalusian horse breeding centre. She then moved to the UK to undertake an MSc in Equine Science and quickly realised she had found her long-term home.
Since arriving in the UK, Nuria has worked across further education, higher education, private clinical practice and equine referral hospitals. She completed a Clinical Residency in Equine Sports Medicine at the University of Bristol, followed by a PhD in equine oncology and epigenetics at the University of Glasgow.
Throughout her career, she has taught a wide range of learners, including veterinary physiotherapists, veterinary nursing students, bioveterinary and medical students, and even a group of Japanese students learning Spanish.
Nuria is particularly passionate about helping future veterinary professionals develop the skills that underpin a successful and fulfilling career. Having seen many students and practitioners struggle with areas such as communication, leadership, self-reflection, and learning from mistakes, she feels privileged to contribute to their professional development through her teaching on the Veterinary Programme.
She is also enthusiastic about widening access to the profession and helping select the next generation of veterinary surgeons. As part of this work, she currently leads student interviews and enjoys meeting aspiring vets at the very start of their journey.
When she is not teaching or working with students, Nuria loves exploring the countryside with her little Daxie and still brings the same enthusiasm to veterinary education that first brought her from Spain to the UK many years ago.
