Personal Statement
I think of myself as ‘jack of all trades, master of none.’ My undergraduate degree is in natural sciences, my PhD is in protein folding and I have postdoctoral experience in computational biology, crystallography, and microbiology. After ten years as a postdoctoral researcher, I decided that supporting research, rather than applying to lead research, suited me best.

In 2014, I became grant writer and research administrator for the Oxford Glycobiology Institute. I worked closely with a small number of PIs on all aspects of proposal development from research design, through costing and engagement with external collaborators, to writing. When my partner relocated to Liverpool in 2019, I was lucky enough to gain a position working as Senior Grant Writer for Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed and the MRC Centre for Drug Safety Science. In this role I have expanded my experience from BBSRC and MRC projects and Fellowships to Wellcome Trust and NIHR proposals. I’ve also supported projects across all four Institutes within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.

In March 2022 I moved to a Faculty support role as Research Funding and Development Manager within the Research and Impact Directorate. My role is to provide hands-on grant-writing support to researchers in securing external research funding. I work across all aspects of the grant application lifecycle from initial development to response to reviewers comments. The support I can provide includes: pre-writing discussion; reworking of unsuccessful bids for a new funding opportunity; constructive feedback on, and editing of, proposal drafts; creation of summaries from a case for support and management of large bids. My remit typically encompasses applications between the value of £250K and £1.5M, with a focus on supporting Early Career Researchers.
