Public involvement and co-production


Selina’s main area of interest is public involvement and co-production in applied health research. She is interested in how patients, public contributors and communities can shape research priorities, design, delivery and impact in meaningful ways.

Her work focuses on building inclusive structures for involvement and supporting researchers to work ethically and effectively with public contributors.

Public health ethics and research inclusion
Selina is interested in the ethical foundations of public health research and practice. This includes justice, autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, proportionality and health improvement.

She is particularly interested in how these principles can support more inclusive research, better communication of evidence and more equitable involvement of under-served groups.

Neurodiversity, adolescence and complex risk
Selina is interested in neurodiversity, adolescence, safeguarding and digital environments. Her work in this area focuses on how systems understand and respond to complex combinations of vulnerability, distress and risk, including where young people’s needs cut across health, education, family support and public safety.

She is particularly interested in relational, trauma-informed and neurodiversity-informed approaches, and in how research can improve responses to school breakdown, online harms, family stress and emerging forms of risk that do not fit neatly within existing service models.
