Personal Statement
I have been a Consultant Cardiologist in the NHS for the last 10 years, with specialist interest in heart failure.
I have won several awards - local(Hospital Innovator of the Year, Cinical Lead of Team of the Year),regional & national awards (Roy Award twice from HF Patient Charity Pumping Marvellous) for innovations - creating UK’s 1st NHS heart failure Mobile APP for patients, HSJ,BMJ Award nominations for creating world’s 1st multi-speciality HF MDT & HSJ Patient Safety Award for UK’s 1st acute HF virtual ward,HSJ Award for Everton Beat-Breathlessness Hub.
I have regional leadership roles (Cheshire,Merseyside ICB HF Co-lead), national(GIRFT VW lead ,NHS England Expert Advisory Group member for HF, PIFU, HF Virtual Ward, Board member British Society for Heart Failure,Vice-President-elect of British Cardiovascular Society Digital,IT Committee,Clinical Advisory Board Member Pumping Marvellous Foundation) & international leadership role (Board member Digital Committee European Society of Cardiology)
I have an active research role as Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at University of Liverpool & am PI of several multi centre research trials. I am currently Chief Investigator of the AmySUSPECT Study and Clinical Lead of the BHF Funded Everton BEAT-Breathlessness Hub. I have authored >70 peer reviewed publications and have supervised MD, PhD students as well as medical students. I have given several national, international talks regarding research, innovations and service development -
• 2016 – As HF Clinical Lead, l led development of the award-winning Aintree Ambulatory HF unit-1st to introduce use of elastomeric pump for IV diuretics &point of care testing
• 2017- developed cardiorenal MDT, published outcomes
• 2017-2018 Won innovation funding, developed UK's 1st heart failure patient self-care Mobile App Aintree Heart Failure Passport
• 2018-2019 obtained CCG funding & developed world’s 1st HF multi-specialty HF MDT t- acknowledged by BMJ, HSJ Awards
• 2019 Developed home IV diuretic pathway for frail patients
• 2019 - Created primary care digital leaflets for patient education in Liverpool
• 2020 - developed Digital PIFU ( using Mobile APP & Drdoctor)
• 2020-2021 Won £250k innovation grant from NHSX,developed UK’s 1st acute HF
virtual ward
• 2021- developed HF pharmacist clinic for optimisation
• 2021,2022 developed oedema socks with University of Liverpool
• 2023 – Developed dedicated HFpEF clinic
• 2023-2024 led Everton One stop breathlessness hub,trained GP,HFSN to perform AI echo, presented outcomes at CVCT Washington (JACCHF papers)
• 2024-home digital cardiac rehab (KiActiv) as step down from acute HF virtualward
• 2024 STRONGHF remote optimisation from acute HF virtual ward
