Personal Statement
Matthew Shupler is a postdoctoral research associate and quantitative lead for UK National Institute for Health Research CLEAN-Air(Africa) Global Health Research Group. Matt has applied his statistical training to the field of household air pollution since his Master of Public Health in Biostatistics at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. Matt completed his doctoral thesis in Epidemiology at the School of Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Matt has nearly a decade of experience as a data analyst working on randomized controlled trials and observational studies examining the various health impacts of exposure to household air pollution from cooking with polluting fuels. His research interest is broadly based on improving population health and combating climate change via strategies that reduce exposure household air pollution. This includes evaluating the sustainability of clean cooking technologies in low- and middle-income countries in order to accelerate their transition to modern fuels for household energy.
