Personal Statement
Dr Carl Philip Hedenstierna (PhD Cardiff, MSc Cranfield, BSc Skovde) is a Lecturer in Operations and Supply Chain Management at the University of Liverpool Management School. He investigates how to use data and technology to make better decisions in the face of uncertainty. Dr Hedenstierna takes a particular interest in solving real-world problems using novel forecasting and control methods for profit, demand satisfaction, and the avoidance of waste. He has conducted research with and advised companies in several sectors, including grocery retailing, consumer 3D printing, consumer packaged goods, and the automotive sector.

Dr Hedenstierna’s research has been published in journals including the Journal of Operations Management, the European Journal of Operational Research, and the International Journal of Production Economics. He is interested in supervising quantitatively skilled PhD students interested in exploring the interface between data science and decision making.

Research Overview
My research interests cover a wide area of operations management and operational research. Some topics I have studied include estimation under demand censoring, inter-firm collaboration, the effect of planning cycles in supply chains, and fill rates. Currently working on the estimation of demand models with structural features, such as customer-traffic-driven demand, or models with product substitution.
