Personal Statement
Mark is an urban planner and applied social scientist who acts as an authority on integration in policy, plan and programme production processes, and has an extensive experience of working both with and within both central and local government on projects to successfully deliver timely and original insights of problems transcending the policy cycle.

Mark has completed a PhD investigating the integration between land use and transport policy, plan and programmes across Merseyside at the University of Liverpool. He has previously worked at Cranfield University in Bedfordshire on environmental risk governance in both central and local government, and also at Prifsgol Bangor University in Wales where he conducted a meta-ethnography on implementation research across health research.

Mark specialises in qualitative research methods to investigate the human-structure interface. This has involved synthesising insights from interviews and data in order to fathom what works (and equally does not work).

Research Overview
Mark is currently working part time as a Grant Manager on the LEAF (Liverpool Economic Activity Framework) project which is a UKRI funded interdisciplinary partnership involving JMU and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine to investigate comprehensive, community focussed approaches for addressing underlying placed-based and systemic factors behind economic inactivity within the Liverpool City Region. Mark is responsible for managing the operation and delivery of this project, including ensuring alignment of outputs with stakeholder needs. Mark is additionally an honorary Research Associate within the Department of Geography & Planning, where he has previously worked on the SUBDENSE (Suburban Densification) research project; an interdisciplinary partnership between Liverpool University, TU Dortmund University, National Institute of Geographic and Forest Information (IGN)/University Gustave Eiffel and IOER Dresden. Mark has previously worked on the Financing Clean Air project here at Liverpool, which was funded via JPI Urban Europe in a partnership which included Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, University of Paris Est/Ecole d’Urbanisme de Paris, Radboud University, Tongji University, and XJTLU. This project focused on understanding how land value capture can contribute to cleaner and more sustainable urban living.
