Personal Statement
I am a certified Passivhaus designer/consultant with a strong focus on life cycle assessment for retrofitting. My expertise lies in designing energy-efficient, cost-effective, thermally comfortable, and sustainable buildings. I've been recognised with several awards for my research in life cycle assessment, including the North West Regional Construction Innovation Awards. Furthermore, it received high commendation in the innovation category at the National Constructing Excellence Awards.
Currently, my research revolves around overcoming challenges in applying the Passivhaus retrofit (EnerPHit) standard to historically listed buildings. This involves addressing barriers associated with the 'carbon tunnel' and the 'heritage tunnel' perspectives, which often hinder comprehensive retrofit approaches. I collaborate closely with industry partners, councils, and Historic England to tackle these issues. Additionally, I supervise international PhD students who are exploring the application of Passivhaus and zero-carbon standards in various social and cultural contexts.
On an international scale, I'm leading a research project with the University of Ghana in Accra and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana. This study challenges international design standards and aims to contribute to a comprehensive understanding of thermal comfort in Ghana's climate. The goal is to improve health and well-being while reducing energy consumption.
