Personal Statement
I am a political theorist, and policy researcher, working at the interface of politics, philosophy, and economics.

My research focuses on three interconnected themes:
(i) The future of work and labour market regulation
(ii) Spatial inequality and local economic development
(iii) Local governance and democracy.

Through my research I aim to integrate normative political theory with analysis of live debates in public policy, especially those affecting the local or urban scale. In particular I am interested in exploring how our understanding of concepts such as freedom, equality, democracy, and justice help us to critically assess our existing political and economic systems, and shape alternative trajectories.

I joined the Heseltine Institute for Public Policy, Practice and Place as a Research Associate in 2021 following the completion of my PhD in Politics at the University of York. I also hold an MA in Legal and Political Theory from UCL and a BA in Politics and International Relations from Royal Holloway.

Prior to joining the Heseltine Institute I worked as a Research Officer with Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, working closely on long-term economic strategy and the devolution agenda. I have also previously completed visiting positions at Harvard University, Humboldt University of Berlin, and the Royal Society of Arts (RSA).

Research Overview
Through my research I aim to establish (and maximise) avenues for dialogue between normative theory, empirical research, and policy practice.

My research to date has largely focused on the distinctive idea of freedom as non-domination offered by the republican tradition of political thought, and how this can help to shed new light on pressing issues of public policy and regulation.

I continue to develop this 'applied' or 'problem driven' approach to political theory across three broad areas of study.
