Personal Statement
I graduated from the University of Salford in 1999 and worked clinically as a Diagnostic Radiographer for several years, taking active roles in Quality Assurance and clinical audit and specialising in Computed Tomography. I also gained a City and Guilds Further Education Certificate (7307) working with undergraduate radiography students.
I completed a MSc in Immunology and Immunogenetics and a PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Manchester during which my research interests involved study of the neuroimmune link and the relevance of this in susceptibility to disease. Following this, I worked as a medical writer for two years, during which I gained much experience of academic writing for peer reviewed journals and congresses. I then returned to clinical practice and specialised in Computed Tomography before joining the team here at Liverpool.
I have a keen interest in Widening Participation and Public Engagement and have taught with many educational charities over a number of years including Potential Plus and the Brilliant Club; I was given a ‘Volunteer of the Year’ award by the University of Manchester for this work during PhD study. I was also a Widening Participation Fellow, a tutor on the Manchester Access Programme and visited several public engagement events with ‘The Worm Wagon’ (deemed ‘highly commended’ at the University of Manchester Make a Difference awards). At the University of Liverpool I am joint lead for Widening Participation in the School of Allied Health Professions and Nursing.

Research Overview
My research interests involve neuroimaging, diffusion tensor imaging, susceptibility to disease and the neuroimmune link.
