Personal Statement
I am a mathematical modeller leading the Systems Medicine Group.

The mission of my lab is to support robust decision-making in healthcare with advanced modelling of all accessible data. This enables delivering timely, effective and affordable medicines which are urgently needed.

We aim to
• Detect disease early
• Deliver the right drug to the right patients at the right dose
• Find new cures to deadly diseases

Prior to joining the UoL in 2022, I supported cancer drug projects including osimertinib at AstraZeneca (2011-2015), led the PK/PD Modelling Laboratory at Boehringer Ingelheim (2016-2018), and started a consulting company to advise the private and public sectors (2018-now). During the pandemic, I served as Lead PK/PD Modeller at UK COVID-19 Therapeutic Advisory Panel’s Due Diligence Team at the MRC to assess and recommend candidate treatments for clinical trials (2020-2021).

I earned my BE in Polymer Science from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University (2002), and my MSc in Molecular Engineering in Biological and Chemical Systems at Singapore-MIT Alliance (2003). I developed one of the first bioinformatics systems to support cancer proteomic biomarker research at the NUS (2003-2005). I did my PhD in stochastic and deterministic modelling of gene regulatory systems relevant to fungal survival at the University of Aberdeen with Profs Al Brown and George Coghill (2005-2009). I modelled combinatorial stress responses in fungal pathogens as a postdoctoral scientist with Prof Celso Grebogi in Aberdeen before joining the industry (2009-2011).
