Personal Statement
Emma is a Research Fellow in Public Health at the University of Liverpool. Her research centres on evaluating public health interventions, particularly those delivered through local government and the third sector. She is especially interested in interventions that reduce health inequalities by addressing the social determinants of health.

Emma’s recent research includes evaluations of welfare and financial support interventions (including discretionary welfare schemes and money and mental health advice services); place-based and environmental interventions (including housing retrofit programmes and healthy environments initiatives); and community-based interventions (including social prescribing schemes, substance use support services, and programmes addressing digital exclusion).

Emma is part of PHIRST LiLaC, a Public Health Intervention Responsive Studies Team (PHIRST) funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) to provide timely and robust evaluations of public health interventions commissioned or delivered by local government. PHIRST LiLaC comprises researchers from the Universities of Liverpool and Lancaster, Directors of Public Health with strategic expertise, and public collaborators with lived experience, and is one of ten PHIRST teams nationally.
