Personal Statement
I am an academic foundation doctor working at the Infection Neuroscience Laboratory.

My research focuses on the cerebrovascular complications of infection with Covid-19. In particular I look at whether young people were at higher risk of stroke with the virus compared to older people and compared to those who were not infected with the virus at all. I am interested in exploring whether younger people who suffered a stroke with Covid-19 infection had different predisposing factors compared to older counterparts. I am supervised by Professor Benedict Michael (Neuro ID) and Dr Stephen Ray (Paeds ID).

I am a member of the Global Neuro Research Coalition Secretariat and I currently lead the WHO/UoL/MRF-funded Global Brain Health Clinical Exchange Platform. I run a national clinical neurology course for medical students called NeuroPASS at the Walton Centre, a specialist neurological hospital. Clinically, I work in the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. Within the hospital, I was the general secretary of the Doctors’ Mess 2022-2023 and I am currently involved in quality improvement and F1/Medical student teaching.

In autumn 2024 I will start a MSc at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in Tropical Medicine and International Health.

EDUCATION AND BACKGROUND
I trained at Imperial College London, and was awarded both a President's Scholarship (the highest award the university offers) and Dean's List (top 10% of degrees awarded). I performed research both at Harvard Medical School/MGH as the Dulcie Coleman 2019 scholar ($5000 award, using B-cell immunotherapy for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) and at Tokyo Medical and Dentistry University as a 2020 Jasso Scholar (investigating using monoclonal antibodies for Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus). In 2020 I was awarded the Professor Dulcie Coleman Endowed Student Training Award of $5000 SGD with a colleague from Singapore to research the familial impact of Covid-19 in the UK and Singapore. In 2022 I received a total of £3726.78 to undertake 5 weeks of research at the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Centre with a focus on clinical cerebral malaria and an academic focus on single-cell analysis for fatal COVID-19.

Finals Teaching programme at the University of Liverpool - I led a year long case-based teaching programme for medical students at the UOL from 2022-2023.
