Personal Statement
John is an active academic and researcher in clinical psychology. He has published over 80 research papers in peer reviewed journals and published a book, Eating and its Disorders with Wiley in 2012. He has given talks at various international conferences, including the prestigious World Congress of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (WCBCT) and the European Council of Eating Disorders (ECED).

He has been a Consultant Clinical Psychologist across both independent and NHS services since 2007, mainly with adults and with people with eating disorders, and he has worked in mental health for 20 years. He is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and is both an Associate Fellow and Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS). He is also a CAT (Cognitive Analytic Therapy) trained psychologist

John is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), Associate Fellow and a Registered Applied Psychology Practice Supervisor within the British Psychological Society. He is also an accredited CAT therapist with ACAT.

Research Overview
John has been conducting research with adults with eating disorders since 2001 and has been looking at emotion processing and basic emotions. In recent years, this work has taken a number of different turns with working looking at the 'anorexic voice' (an operationalised voice that drives the eating disorders), staff approaches in working with people with eating disorders and the overlap between anorexia and autism. John has significant experience with various research methodologies, including experimental methods and qualitative research.
