Personal Statement
I joined the University of Liverpool in 2023 and teach across both the MSc and BSc Occupational Therapy programmes. My academic and professional interests centre on occupational justice, inclusive and participatory pedagogies, and creative approaches to teaching and research within contexts of asylum, migration, and social inequality.

I hold a Masters degree in Global Citizenship, Human Rights and Identities, which continues to inform my teaching, scholarship, and commitment to socially accountable occupational therapy practice.

Alongside my teaching role, I am Assessment Officer for the MSc Pre Registration Occupational Therapy programme. I am also Module Coordinator for the Lifestyle Transformation through Occupation module on the Masters programme and the Occupational Justice in Context module on the BSc programme. My work across these roles focuses on supporting active, research connected, and critically reflective learning experiences for students.

Research Overview
I am an occupational therapist and educator with interests in both discipline specific and pedagogic research, particularly in relation to creative and participatory methodologies, transformative learning, and inclusive teaching practices.

I am a founding member of the Pedagogic Research Group within the School of Allied Health Professions and Nursing. My research and scholarship focus particularly on contexts and perspectives of asylum, migration, and refuge, alongside trauma informed, co produced, and socially accountable approaches to teaching and learning.

My occupational therapy and pedagogic research interests include transformative learning on student role emerging and refugee placements, and the use of creative methods to support student engagement, voice, reflection, and critical thinking. I have a particular interest in how participatory and arts based approaches can support psychologically safe and inclusive learning environments.

I have been involved in collaborative research using zine making to explore women’s creativity and imagination within a local refugee organisation, and from this began exploring zine making as a participatory and trauma informed research methodology. This work forms part of a wider programme of scholarship exploring creative and co produced approaches within teaching, learning, and community engagement.

My teaching and scholarship draw strongly on active learning, authentic assessment, and research connected education. I use a range of creative and experiential approaches within teaching, including zine making, collage, games based learning, and participatory activities, alongside more structured discussion and reflective learning approaches. I am also interested in ethical and critical engagement with AI within higher education teaching and assessment.

My work has been supported through Research England, ESRC and AHRC, Impact Acceleration funding, and Participatory Research funding. Dissemination has included conference presentations, public engagement activity, pedagogic forums, and publications in development relating to creative methodologies, transformative learning, and inclusive pedagogies.
