Personal Statement
I am a physical geographer with research interests at the interface of fluvial geomorphology, remote sensing and geomorphic hazards.
As part of my research, I use geospatial technologies and big data to quantify geomorphic processes. I am interested in using satellite data to identify the risks that shifting rivers pose to people and infrastructure in dynamic landscapes.
I use the cloud-based analysis platform Google Earth Engine (GEE) for fluvial geomorphology applications (e.g., Boothroyd et al., 2021). Recently, this includes a satellite-derived locational probability approach to assess river adjustment behaviour (Boothroyd et al., 2025).
In an applied context, these types of analysis can be used to assess the relative risk of river migration at sites of critical infrastructure (e.g., PreventionWeb).
Research Overview
Recent contributions to research projects include (i) quantifying geomorphic hazards in the Philippines; (ii) improving global flood models and (iii) monitoring riparian vegetation dynamics in European rivers.
