Personal Statement
I joined the University of Liverpool in September 2023 as a lecturer in World Cinema. I hold a PhD in Film Studies from King's College London. My research interests lie at the intersection of Middle East and North African cinema and socio-political history and culture. My first monograph, Egyptian Male Stars in Nasser's Era: Envisioning a Civic Identity, is currently under commission with the American University in Cairo Press was published in 2026. I am a Co-I on the AHRC project Unhousing Restitution (UNREST): African audiovisual heritage between displacement and return.
I would be happy to supervise students interested in any of the following research areas: North African and Middle Eastern Cinema, Postcolonial Cinemas, Stardom and Performance, Masculinity in Cinema.
