ABOUT

Personal Statement
Guzden is an architect of computational design, focusing on immersive technologies, architectural design education and digital cultural heritage. She holds a PhD in Art Design and Architecture, a MFA in Graphic Design, and BArch from the prestigious Turkish universities of Bilkent and METU. Her interdisciplinary research reached international grounds at MIT, UCLA and TAMU. Holding an associate professorship by the Council of Higher Education of Turkey, she taught courses on computational design, architectural design studio and design theory at both graduate and undergraduate levels. As a Fulbright and Chevening alumni, Guzden has received numerous grants, fellowships and awards for her designs, presentations and publications.
My research explores the intersection of architecture, digital technologies, and cultural heritage. I focus on how immersive and multisensory environments, computational design, and AI-assisted workflows can reshape the ways we document, interpret, and design built environments. Alongside this, I engage with broader questions of digital design culture, from biodigital design and digital fabrication to art and design theory, reflecting my interest in how technological shifts influence architectural practice and knowledge.

Research Overview
Her research opportunities are from the most prominent institutions - computational architecture at MIT, Islamic studies at Oxford, digital humanities at UCLA and nautical archaeology at Texas A&M. She has achieved several prestigious fellowships - Chevening, Hanfmann and Mellink and Fulbright, as well as grants - U.S. Department of State, MIT Global Seeds, the Turkish Academy of Sciences and Research and Scientific Council.
My research centres on three interconnected areas:
- Digital Heritage and Resilience, where I investigate how immersive environments, multisensory design, and AI can sustain cultural memory and reframe heritage as a living, evolving resource.
- Immersive and Computational Design, focusing on VR/AR/XR, multisensory modelling, and AI-assisted design workflows that expand architectural practice and teaching.
- Design Futures, where I explore biodigital design, digital fabrication, and art and design theory as secondary but important directions that link architectural innovation with cultural and creative practices.
