Personal Statement
Sonny completed his PhD at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) in 2024. His thesis, titled 'Introducing the Hegemonic Tolerance Framework: the Case of the British Monarchy', explored discursively enacted hegemony in media journalism. He also holds an MA in Creative Writing, awarded by Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) in 2017, and a BSc in Sociology, awarded by the University of Chester in 2012. He has previously taught on the Applied Linguistics undergraduate programme at MMU, and worked as a researcher at the Policy Evaluation and Research Unit (PERU).

Sonny's research interests primarily concern the reproduction of inequalities at the intersections between discourse and society. His specialisms include Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), Marxism and Critical Theory, Journalism and Elites.
