Personal Statement
Yanhong earned her PhD from Queen Mary University of London, where she investigated the structure and mechanics of fibrous arthropod cuticle across multiple length scales using synchrotron X-ray diffraction and mathematical modelling. She subsequently undertook postdoctoral research at King’s College London, where she studied the physiology of cardiac muscle contraction. Her work focused on the role of myosin during the activation and relaxation of cardiac cycle. Currently, she works with Dr. Blandine Poulet at the University of Liverpool, exploring the biomechanics of ligaments in osteoarthritis development, with a particular emphasis on the role of fibrillin-1 in regulating the mechanics and function of knee joint ligaments during disease progression.
