Personal Statement
I earned a degree in Biotechnology Engineering from the Technological Institute of Costa Rica and completed an MSc in Health Sciences Research at the Public University of Navarra in Dr Iñigo Lasa’s lab, where I studied c-di-GMP signalling in Staphylococcus aureus biofilms and why this strong biofilm producer lacks this key regulatory pathway.
I was subsequently awarded a Marie Curie PhD fellowship as part of an Innovative Training Network focused on vaccine development against ESKAPE pathogens. My doctoral research combined microbiology and immunology to study host–pathogen interactions and explore how novel vaccine candidates modulate immune responses during vaccination.
Currently, I am a postdoctoral researcher in Prof Aras Kadioglu’s lab, where I primarily study Pseudomonas aeruginosa lung infections. My work integrates microbiology and immunology approaches to understand infection progression in vivo and guide the design of improved therapeutic strategies. I am part of the SafePhage project, investigating synthetic bacteriophages and biocontainment systems as innovative tools to combat antimicrobial resistance and contribute to next-generation infection prevention and treatment.
