Personal Statement
Mireia joined the University of Liverpool in September 2025. Prior to this, she was a Lecturer in Law at the University of Exeter (2023-2025), and she completed her PhD at the London School of Economics (2019-2023). Mireia also holds an MPhil in Law by the University of Oxford, and an MA in Medical Ethics and Law (Distinction) by King's College London. She is from Catalonia, and studied Law at Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

Mireia's research lies at the intersection of medicine, law and society; as she deploys methods borrowed from feminist and critical traditions to examine how legal and medical institutions regulate our bodies.

Research Overview
Mireia's work examines the interactions between healthcare and distinct regulatory frameworks, with a particular focus on health and criminal law. She is keen on historical and theoretical approaches while pursuing impactful and stakeholder engaged research, and my analytical perspectives are interdisciplinary, nurtured by feminist, critical and post-colonial scholarship.

She has written several outputs examining how healthcare and legal actors goven the body in leading legal and non-legal journals, including Social & Legal Studies, the International Journal of Law and Context, or The Lancet, and in renowned media outlets, like the London Review of Books. She is the CO-I in the ESCR funded project 'Examining the Potential for Legislative Prohibitions Designed to Improve Healthcare Experiences for Intersex People in: Lessons from Europe'. This 3-year project evaluates the use of legislation in Malta, Portugal, Spain and Germany to improve the healthcare experiences of intersex people.
