ABOUT
Personal Statement
I am a former practising ophthalmologist and currently work as Tenure Track Fellow in Department of Eye and Viosion Sciences. My research focuses on uncovering the genomic and molecular foundations of ocular diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, myopia, and glaucoma. In addition, using an integrative “oculomics” approach, I applies cutting-edge multi-omics and artificial intelligence to analyse retinal images, aiming to identify early disease biomarkers and translate these insights into precision medicine. To date, I have authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications in leading ophthalmology and precision medicine journals. At Liverpool, I aim to build a collaborative research programme that bridges clinical insight, multi-omics, and AI to develop innovative strategies for understanding, predicting, and preventing diabetic eye disease and other vision-related conditions.
Dr. Huang is a clinician-scientist and Tenure Track Fellow whose research bridges ophthalmology, genomics, and precision medicine. Her career began with clinical training in China, where she earned a Master's in Ophthalmology from Southern Medical University (2013) and registered as an Ophthalmologist. She then pursued a research path, obtaining a PhD in Optometry and Vision Sciences from Cardiff University (2018) for her work on gene-environment interactions in myopia. Following her doctorate, she contributed to precision medicine projects in diabetic retinopathy as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant at the University of Dundee. From 2021 to 2025, Dr. Huang led a multi-omics aging cohort study at Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital in China, where she was awarded the prestigious NSFC Young Scientist Grant. She holds an Honorary Fellowship at the University of Dundee and joined the University of Liverpool's Department of Eye and Vision Science in 2026 to establish her independent research group.
