Personal Statement
Ryan joined the facility following his PhD at the National Cancer Institute, USA where he used a combination of wet and dry lab techniques to elucidate the molecular underpinnings of progenitor cells that control aspects of early mouse embryogenesis. He has a keen interest in multiomics data analysis and its application to clinical systems.

Research Overview
I am a Data Scientist at the Computational Biology Facility and work closely with Prof. Christian Hedrich's group at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. Our research focuses on understanding the mechanisms behind autoimmune disease in children.

My experimental background is in developmental and cancer biology, with hands-on experience using both in vitro and in vivo models. Having first been introduced to bioinformatics during my MSc in Bioinformatics and Computational Genomics, I built upon this foundation by combining experimental and computational approaches during my PhD, where my research focused on large-scale multi-omics analysis of bulk and single-cell data derived from mutant embryos. We used this to establish molecular mechanisms that drive cellular lineage differentiation during early mouse development. My background emphasises the value of using data-driven approaches to generate hypotheses, and the necessity of experimental validation to confirm them in practice.
