Personal Statement
Research Technician with SMIB Professional Services. I have previous experience working within both academic and clinical environments, having worked as an Intern Research Technician at the University of Manchester and Wythenshawe Hospital in 2016-2017, and Salford Royal Hospital as an Associate Practitioner in Microbiology (2020-2023). Further work at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine as a Research Technician has involved working on diagnostic trials in collaboration with FIND on SARS-CoV-2 and MPOX point-of-care testing.
I have previously attained a 1st Class Honours in Human Biology and Infectious Diseases, and an MSc (by Research) in Biological Sciences at the University of Salford (2014-2020). My research project during this time was focussed on the presence of small nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within Liverpool Epidemic Strain (LES) of Pseudomonas aeruginosa when exposed to clinically relevant antibiotics over a continuous period. This research was focussed in relation to Ventilator-Associate Pneumonia (VAP).
My research interests are focussed on antimicrobial resistance in a global health context, as well as emerging infectious diseases and pandemic-related events. I would be interested in expanding research in relation to AMR within the context of climate change, and how this is likely to affect clinically-relevant diseases globally.
