Personal Statement
I am a Lecturer in Politics and Public Administration, sitting across the Department of Politics and the Institute for Irish Studies. I joined the university in August 2026, having previously held research posts at the universities of Manchester, Bristol, Cambridge, Surrey, and Leeds. In these roles, I combined theoretical perspectives with active policy engagement, working in partnership with government departments (including MHCLG & DHSC) and leading think tanks (including the Institute for Government & Demos).

My research covers politics and public policy, with a specialisation in decentralisation and place-based approaches. Broadly, I consider how place-based policymaking is affected by the structure of multi-level political systems. In simple terms: how do we move power downwards in a way that improves local policy and services? My ongoing focus on spatial inequality asks: how do we decentralise in a way that benefits disadvantaged places? I am particularly interested in the unequal geographic distribution of governance, productivity, and public health.
