ABOUT
Research Overview
My research has focused on world cinema and transnational cinemas, particularly the cultural, institutional and political processes & power imbalances through which films circulate internationally and acquire meaning in different contexts. I am interested in the networks that shape access to cinemas of the Global South, including film festivals, distributors, broadcasters, critics, curators and other cultural intermediaries.
My recent research articles have explored the role of French cultural policy and cinephile culture in French 'world cinema festivals', the international reception of Taiwanese cinema, and the aesthetics of diaspora and displacement in Palestinian cinema. Alongside my work on circulation and reception, I am particularly interested in questions of diaspora, postcolonialism, Arab cinemas, Iranian cinema, and East Asian cinemas.
