Personal Statement
I am a veterinary academic, researcher and clinical educator, recognized as a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (FRCVS) and a Specialist in Equine Surgery (RCVS and European Board of Veterinary Specialists, EBVS). I am current Head of Veterinary Research and Professor of Equine Surgery at the University of Liverpool and am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). I am committed to advancing animal health and veterinary science through research, education and leadership and in promoting One Health approaches to help address current and future challenges in animal and human health.

Research Overview
With a PhD in Veterinary Epidemiology, my work involves fundamental and applied interdisciplinary research involving horses and other animal species. I have led multiple international, collaborative research projects and am Chief Investigator on the CHARIOT lidocaine randomised controlled trial (RCT). I also developed and lead the International Colic Surgery Registry (INCISE) which has multiple, global collaborators. My research also involves the intersection between animal, human and environmental health including research on vector-borne diseases that affect animals and people and study of human-animal interactions utilising qualitative methodologies.

I am passionate about advancing knowledge through improved generation of high-quality, primary animal health research and application of evidence-based veterinary medicine (EBVM) principles in veterinary education and professional practice. This includes facilitating and promoting conduct of interventional studies (e.g. RCT) and population-based ‘big data’ research projects. I am keen to further increase collaborations between veterinary, medical and allied health disciplines to foster interdisciplinary growth in education and research.
