Dr. Enmarch specialises in the textual world of the Middle Kingdom (c.1991-1640 B.C.) and adjacent eras. He has previously worked on pessimistic literature, and the development of the lament genre and its implications for the development of Egyptian rhetoric and literary style. More recently he has worked on expedition inscriptions, particularly those from the alabaster quarries at Hatnub. Other interests include the development of the Egyptian language, the interface between Egyptian religious and royal ideologies, and cultural relations with neighbouring pre-Classical and Classical civilisations.
