Personal Statement
Dr Glenn Godenho is Senior Lecturer in Egyptology and Academic Director of Continuing Education at the University of Liverpool. His research explores the material culture and texts of ancient Egypt, with a particular focus on the Old to Middle Kingdom transition, and the Ramesside period. Beyond Egyptology, Glenn plays a leading role in the University’s lifelong learning strategy, forging partnerships that translate academic expertise into social impact. Working with NHS R&D Northwest, he has developed nationally significant programmes that empower health and social care practitioners to create research-informed solutions to real-world challenges. Glenn also develops education in prisons through a partnership with Novus, using Egyptology as an access point to re-engage learners. His approach combines creative activities with critical thinking to challenge misinformation and foster intellectual confidence, positioning archaeology as a gateway to broader conversations about evidence, authority, and social impact. Through these initiatives, Glenn champions continuing education as a driver of social change across health, justice, and community sectors.

Research Overview
My research focuses on the language, material culture, and social history of ancient Egypt, with particular expertise in the First Intermediate Period and Ramesside Periods. I am actively engaged in projects at the tomb of Ankhtifi near Mo’alla, and the fortress at Zawyiet Umm el-Rakham. Beyond traditional scholarship, I investigate innovative approaches to Egyptology education, including prison-based pedagogy, highlighting the subject’s role in fostering critical engagement and inclusivity.
