Personal Statement
I am a Facility Manager and a Data Scientist working within the Computational Biology Facility (CBF) as part of the Liverpool Shared Research Facilities. In this dual role, I provide strategic and operational leadership for the Facility, supporting our team of data scientists and software engineers, overseeing project delivery, training, and continued development of the Facility, while continuing to work directly on collaborative research projects. I teach and have created materials for a range of CBF-led courses, covering topics from the fundamentals of R and Data Science to specialised areas such as single cell RNA-seq.


My training in bioinformatics began during my PhD in evolutionary ecology, where I studied host–microbe interactions using both wet-lab and computational approaches. Following my PhD, I spent two years as a Bioinformatician within the Bioinformatics Support Unit at Newcastle University, where I further developed my bioinformatics and data science expertise working on a diverse range of research projects.
I enjoy applying computational approaches across a variety of biological disciplines to answer complex research questions and have a keen interest in engaging with new emerging technologies.


I am passionate about public engagement and widening participation, in particular helping create opportunities which aim to break down some of the barriers for under-represented groups in biology and data science.
