Personal Statement
Ahmed Kazaili graduated with a BSc and First-Class (Hons) MSc in Biomedical Engineering, delving into the intricacies of biomechanics and biophotonics in motion and tissues. His academic journey continued with an MSc in Computer Applications in Engineering, broadening his programming skills using MATLAB and modelling abilities with Abaqus and AutoCAD. Subsequently, Ahmed intensively investigated the biomechanics and biophotonics of corneal tissues during his PhD at the University of Liverpool. He acquired extensive experience in nanoindentation methods, Atomic Force Microscopy, and other nano-, micro-, and macroscale imaging techniques, such as Optical Coherence Tomography. Currently, he is a dedicated Postdoctoral Research Associate at Liu Lab within Department of Biochemistry, Cell and Systems Biology, investigating thylakoid membrane proteins, and has gained experience supervising, supporting, and mentoring students to achieve their research goals.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Ahmed's professional trajectory includes a decade-long role as a senior application engineer of medical equipment at Siemens Healthineers. Simultaneously, he served as a part-time lecturer, enhancing his understanding of biomechanical principles in modules such as medical devices, biomechanics, and bio-photonics. Ahmed's industrial and teaching experience runs in parallel with his commitment to establishing medical subspecialty centres in collaboration with the Ministry of Health in Iraq. His proficiency in medical imaging techniques, motion analysis systems, and collaboration with clinical staff showcases his versatility and readiness to adapt to varied research environments.
