Personal Statement
Professor Yi Huang is the Chair in Wireless Engineering and Head of the High-Frequency Engineering Research Group at the University of Liverpool, UK. He received a BSc in Physics (Wuhan, China), an MSc (Eng) in Microwave Engineering (Nanjing, China), and a DPhil in Communications from the University of Oxford, UK, in 1994. His expertise spans antennas, radio propagation, radar, wireless communications, energy harvesting and power transfer, EMC, and applied electromagnetics. He previously held R&D and research positions at NRIET (China), the Universities of Birmingham, Oxford, and Essex, and served as a Research Fellow at British Telecom Labs. He joined the University of Liverpool in 1995 as a Lecturer and later served as MSc Programme Director (2000–2018) and Deputy Head of Department (2015–2023).

He has published over 500 refereed journal and conference papers, is the author of "Antennas: From Theory to Practice" (Wiley, 2008; 2nd edition, 2021) and two Reverberation Chamber books (Wiley, 2016 and 2019). His work has received many recognitions, including the IET Premium Award for Best Paper (2022), EuCAP Best Antenna Paper Award (2023), the IET Innovation Award (2018), and the BAE Systems Chairman’s Award (2017). He has secured substantial research funding from UK research councils, government agencies, charities, the EU, and industry, and has acted as a consultant to a range of companies.

Prof Huang has served on numerous national and international technical committees, including the EPSRC, IET, IEEE, European ACE, COST-IC0603, COST-IC1102, and EurAAP. He was the UK/Ireland Delegate to EurAAP (2016–2020). His editorial roles have included Associate Editor and Guest Editor for several leading journals, including IEEE Trans on Antennas and Propagation, Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (2016–2022), and Editor-in-Chief of Wireless Engineering and Technology (2014–2023). He is currently an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation. He has organised and delivered keynote and invited talks at flagship international conferences, including EuCAP (2018, 2024) and IEEE iWAT (2026). He is a College Member of EPSRC, a member of the IEEE AP-S New Technology Directions Committee, and a Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE AP-S. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and a Fellow of IEEE (FIEEE).

Research Overview
Prof Huang has a wide range of research activities, in addition to antennas, RF/microwave engineering, EMC measurements, and wireless communications, he has recently worked on new materials (such as metamaterials, dispersive materials and liquid materials) for antennas and microwave devices, wireless energy harvesting and power transfer, and AI-assisted antenna designs.
