Personal Statement
I joined the University of Liverpool Management School in December 2015 after graduating from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a PhD degree in Operations Management. I also obtained my Master’s degree in Operations Management from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and my Bachelor’s degree in Electronic and Communications Engineering from The University of Hong Kong. Prior to my PhD studies, I had worked in a FTSE 100 company as a Lead Engineer for several years.

My research focuses on two areas: (1) the operational implications of adopting emerging technologies such as social media, blockchain, virtual reality and artificial intelligence, and (2) the management of social and environmental issues in global supply chains. Some of my research papers related to these two areas are published or forthcoming in Management Science (ABS 4*; FT50; UTD24), Journal of Operations Management (ABS 4*; FT50; UTD24), Production and Operations Management (ABS 4; FT50; UTD24), and International Journal of Operations & Production Management (ABS 4), among others.

I received several research awards for my publications, such as the Outstanding Paper Award from International Journal of Operations & Production Management (ABS 4) for my research about the impact of sustainable supply chain practices on firms’ financial risk (Lam, 2018), and the Jack Meredith Best Paper Award (Honorable Mention) from Journal of Operations Management (ABS 4*; FT50; UTD24) for my research about the impact of foreign competition on domestic firms' product quality (Lam et al., 2022). I was also named a Leverhulme Research Fellow by the Leverhulme Trust in 2020 and an Eminent Research Scholar by the University of Melbourne in 2023.

Currently I am serving the research community as a Co-Editor-in-Chief for International Journal of Operations & Production Management (ABS 4), an Associate Editor for Journal of Operations Management (ABS 4*; FT50; UTD24), and an Editorial Review Board Member for International Journal of Production Economics (ABS 3) and Decision Sciences (ABS 3). I had also served as a Guest Editor for International Journal of Operations & Production Management (ABS 4), International Journal of Production Economics (ABS 3), and Transportation Research Part E (ABS 3), editing special issues related to social media, metaverse, extreme weather, and sustainable supply chains.
