ABOUT
Personal Statement
I joined the School of Life Sciences in 2019 as a Lecturer and am now Programme Director for the Human Physiology and Anatomy & Human Biology programmes. My teaching focuses on immunology, biochemistry and parasitology. As a member of the School of Life Sciences Internationalisation team, I fulfil the role of Link Tutor (Life Sciences) for the University of Liverpool International College Foundation programme. I am also the Life Sciences Link Tutor for Carmel College Y0 and am part of the School of Life Sciences Senior Academic Advisor team.
I graduated from the University of Glasgow with an undergraduate degree (MSci) in Parasitology, which included a 12-month work placement in Moredun Research Institute, Edinburgh. I joined the Filariasis Research group, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine on a Wellcome Trust Prize Studentship during which I investigated the interactions of Wolbachia bacteria with eukaryotic cells. Following the award of my PhD, I continued my research on Wolbachia, both in immunological and drug discovery contexts. My main research focus currently is in drug discovery for filarial parasites, specifically the use of chemical biology to identify the molecular targets of new anti-Wolbachia compounds.
