Personal Statement
After graduating, Mark spent 2 years in a large mixed practice before returning to Leahurst to take up a 3 year Home of Rest for Horses residency in equine anaesthesia and cardiology, during which time he obtained his RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia. After the residency, Mark remained at Leahurst as a clinical anaesthetist and was appointed Lecturer in Veterinary Anaesthesia in September 2002. Mark became an ECVAA Diplomate in 2004. Mark undertook a PhD endotoxaemia in horses between 2005-2008 after which Mark returned to clinical work, Mark was appointed Senior Lecturer in 2011. Mark was awarded a personal chair in 2018. He is currently Head of Department for Equine Clinical Science. Mark’s main research interests are innate immunity and clinical research interests are peri-operative morbidities and mortalities.
