Personal Statement
Mavluda Sattorova is Professor of International Economic Law (Trade and Investment) at the University of Liverpool. Her scholarship is recognised for pioneering empirical research in international investment law, particularly on how investment treaties and investor-state dispute settlement shape state behaviour and domestic governance. Her current work examines the role of corporations in international economic governance, including the emergence of investor obligations and the growing securitisation of investment and trade policy.
Professor Sattorova's research has attracted competitive funding from the British Academy, the Research Council of Norway and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). She has worked extensively at the interface between academic research and government policy, including through a UKRI Knowledge Exchange Fellowship and secondments and advisory roles with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (2019-2023) and the Department for Business and Trade/Government Legal Department (2024-2026).
Mavluda is Director of the Corporations, Law and Society research cluster at Liverpool. She has held a Fernand Braudel Fellowship at the European University Institute and visiting professorships at the Graduate Institute in Geneva and the National University of Singapore, as well as visiting appointments at Melbourne Law School and Nagoya University in Japan. She has also worked in an expert capacity with international organisations, including UNCTAD and the World Health Organization.
