ABOUT

Personal Statement
I hold a PhD in Social and Political Sciences from the European University Institute (EUI; Florence), and my research interests lie at the intersection of sociology, social psychology and comparative political science. My main areas of specialism are electoral behaviour, public opinion, political parties and statistical methods. I joined the University of Liverpool in 2015.

Many of my papers are available for download at Researchgate.

I am available to supervise PhD students who wish to do quantitative (or mixed methods) empirical research in areas broadly related to political polarization, emotions and politics, political behaviour (electoral or otherwise, including support for radical and extreme parties and movements) and political parties (membership and organization).

PhD supervision as primary supervisor:

Nawra Al-Lawati (completed): "The Substantive Representation of Women in a Non-Democracy. How Women Influence Politics in Oman."
Enis Porat: "Party Choice Among Migrant Voters: The Role of Migrant-Specific Factors, Migrant Issues and Spatial Voting."
Will Oliver: "Identity entrepreneurs: to what extent does a polarizing approach to group-based appeals explain the electoral success of the radical right in Europe?”
