Researchers in our Department lead world-class R&D programmes in fundamental science and applied research.

 

We collaborate with the leading institutes and laboratories around the world, including CERN in Switzerland, STFC's Diamond Light Source and Daresbury Laboratory in the UK, ESRF and GANIL in France, GSI and DESY in Germany, and TRIUMF in Canada.

 

Our research has a focus on five main areas:

 

Accelerator Physics

 

The Liverpool Accelerator Physics Group is amongst the world-leaders in beam diagnostics development, accelerator and light source design and optimisation.

 

Condensed Matter Physics

 

Here at Liverpool, we embrace a wide range of physics that is aimed at making a positive impact on life, technology and innovation by developing both fundamental and applied understanding relevant to modern issues.

 

Nuclear Physics

 

Nuclear Physics at Liverpool encompasses many areas of research that range from enhancing our fundamental understanding of the laws of physics.

 

Particle Physics

 

Our Particle Physics programme includes working at the energy and precision frontiers of physics and the study of the properties of quarks and neutrinos.

 

Physics Education Research

 

We delve deep into the mechanics of the educational process, utilising an evidence-based approach to explore and improve physics teaching and learning.
