Personal Statement
Briony graduated from The University of Liverpool in 2000 and then spent 18 months in mixed practice in Manchester before returning to Liverpool to do a residency in veterinary anaesthesia. After completing the residency she stayed for 2 years as an anaesthesia clinician and achieved the certificate in anaesthesia.

Briony moved to a private referral practice in Yorkshire as a consultant anaesthetist for 3 years, during which time she gained her European Diploma in Anaesthesia and Analgesia. She returned to the University of Liverpool in 2010 and is now a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Small Animal Anaesthesia service.

Personal Statement
Jose qualified from the Veterinary School of Murcia University (Spain). After a rotatory internship (Hospital Veterinario San Vicente, Alicante, Spain) he spent a few years working in an emergency service in the south of Spain.

He moved to England in 2017 and worked as a general practitioner in Yorkshire. During this time he developed a special interest in oncology. He completed an oncology internship at Fitzpatrick Oncology and Soft Tissue Referrals in 2020-2021 prior to starting his Residency at the University of Liverpool.

Personal Statement
Isabel qualified from the Veterinary School of Zaragoza University (Spain) in June 2006. After spending one and a half years working in the emergency service of a hospital in Madrid, she moved to England to work as a first opinion vet in a referral practice in Manchester. During this time she developed a special interest in small animal medicine but especially in Oncology.

In April 2009 she started a one year rotatory internship at Cambridge University where she pursued her interest in Oncology. In July 2010 she moved to Liverpool to start her residency in Oncology. In March 2013 she was promoted to Lecturer in Oncology.

In April 2017 she qualified as a European Specialist in Veterinary Oncology and took up the post of Senior Lecturer in November 2017.

Personal Statement
After graduating from the University of Veterinary Medicine, Budapest in 2020, Maria began her career in a busy first opinion practice in Dublin, Ireland. She then joined the University of Liverpool Small Animal Teaching Hospital in July 2023 as an Oncology intern. In May 2024 she started her residency in Small Animal Oncology.

Maria is interested in paraneoplastic syndromes and their mechanisms in different cancers.

Personal Statement
Prue graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 1993, undertaking surgery specialist training at University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and becoming a Diplomate of the American and European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2000. She worked across a range of private referral practices until 2023, enjoying working alongside a wide range of specialist and general practitioners. She has been a member of committees for the RCVS Surgery certificate and ECVS Surgery Diploma exams, as well as the previous RCVS Surgery Board. After greatly enjoyed teaching post-graduate surgical skills to both residents and general practitioners since 1999, Prue returned to academia in 2023 to expand her teaching to include undergraduate students. Alongside her clinical interests, Prue has a strong interest in the interactions between workplace culture, clinical governance and mental health.

James graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2015. After 3 years in small animal practice in Hampshire and Bournemouth, he completed a rotating internship at Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists in May 2019. James returned to the SATH in December 2019 to start his residency in small animal internal medicine. He achieved Diplomate status in the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine - Companion Animals, in the subspecialty of Internal Medicine in April 2024. James has been a lecturer in Internal Medicine at the SATH ever since. He has a particular interest in interventional radiology and is the resident lead helping to support the residents at the SATH through their residencies.

Personal Statement
Dan graduated from the University of Bristol in 1997. He moved to the School of Veterinary Science, University of Liverpool in 2002. He was awarded the RCVS Diploma in Small Animal Medicine and became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2007. In 2010 he completed PhD studies in the field of molecular physiology, researching the regulation of intestinal glucose transporters in dogs and cats, and their relevance to diabetes mellitus and obesity. He rejoined the Medicine team at the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, University of Liverpool in 2011 as Lecturer in Internal Medicine and is currently Professor of Small Animal Medicine.

Personal Statement
Professor Bentley is a board-certified veterinary neurologist-neurosurgeon, and a canine/human brain cancer researcher.
He performs translational studies (between canine and human) and translational clinical trials of canine glioma, using spontaneously occurring gliomas in companion animal (pet) dogs as a model for human glioma / glioblastoma.
His current translational canine clinical trial is the DOG-FIGhT Trial, developing ferumoxytol (nanoparticle iron) as a radiosensitizer for glioma. In the first arm of the study, dogs diagnosed with glioma receive ferumoxytol pre-operatively, and then surgical biopsies are studied for the impact of ferumoxytol (markers of M1 and M2 subtypes of macrophages, apoptosis, proliferation rate, Prussian blue). Dogs additionally receive post-operative radiation therapy, as an incentive for enrolment.
His previous translational canine glioma clinical trials include metronomic chlorambucil chemotherapy, and post-operative application of genetically-modified oncolytic herpesvirus (M032).
He is a founding member of the Comparative Brain Tumor Consortium of the NIH, and a member of the University of Liverpool Brain Cancer research group.

2) Building the translational model of spontaneous canine glioma, with a focus upon immunological and genomic analyses.
3) Studies involving the diagnosis, pathology, treatment and prognosis of canine glioma.

Personal Statement
Ella qualified in 2020 from University of Bristol, and worked in a busy first opinion practice in Hampshire. Ella joined SATH in January 2022 as a patient care nurse, before joining the oncology team in May 2022 as oncology and radiotherapy nurse.
Ella’s main role is within the radiotherapy department, where she is responsible for patient care and monitoring patients throughout their treatment course. Ella is also involved in assisting with the administration of chemotherapy and student teaching.
